Coimbatore Corporation Zoo recently organised the 59{+t}{+h}Wildlife Week celebrations. The Zoo authorities organised awareness programmes with support from the Zoo Outreach Organisation and the National Green Corps.

Awareness

Sixty-seven students from the Anuparpalayam Higher Secondary School attended the awareness programme, said a release. P. Asokan, Zoo director, took around the students and spoke to them about wildlife. He spoke about the role of zoo in conservation, research and education, explained the nature of every animal in the zoo and told them the ‘dos and don’ts’ while observing the animals. The students were told about environment pollution, climate change, etc. The students were also taught to handle snakes. R. Marimuthu, Senior Education Officer, Zoo Outreach Organisation, conducted an interactive session on human-elephant coexistence.

The students participated enthusiastically by asking questions. Balasamy, National Green Corps coordinator, also participated.
