City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu on Monday handed over Rs.5 lakh to R. Rajeswari, wife of constable Chandrasekaran, who died on duty on February 25.

Mr. Babu handed over the demand draft in the presence of the constable's sons, Naveen Kumar (17) and Madhan Kumar (12).

Chandrasekaran (45), attached to the R.S. Puram police station, was knocked down by a lorry on Marudhamalai Road. He died on the spot.

The Commissioner gave Rs. 1.5 lakh, the constable's provident fund earnings. This amounted to Rs. 5.5 lakh.

Reviews security

Collector and District Election Officer P. Umanath on Monday reviewed security arrangements at the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, where the Electronic Voting Machines have been kept. District Revenue Officer A. Shanmugasundaram was present.
