Public Works Minister K.V. Ramalingam has promised that the government will ensure that the benefits of its welfare programmes reached all the genuine beneficiaries.
Participating at government functions held in different parts in the district on Saturday, the Minister said that a number of programmes were being implemented in the State to enhance the quality of life of people, particularly those living in the rural areas.
Highlighting the features of a few welfare programmes, the Minister said that the government had come up with a special incentive scheme for poor students to pursue their higher secondary education. The objective of the scheme was to prevent the students from dropping out of their studies. Laptops were also being provided to all the students studying Plus Two under another scheme, he said further
The government had taken steps to ensure that the benefits of these welfare schemes reached the genuine beneficiaries, he said.
The Minister distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 1.27 crore to 2,398 beneficiaries during the functions. Collector V.K. Shhanmugam presided over the functions, which were attended by senior officials from various departments.
Later Mr. Ramalingam inspected the damaged bund of the Kalingarayan canal near BP Agraharam and advised the public works officials to ensure proper maintenance to the canal.
