Welfare assistance to the tune of Rs 1.45 crore was distributed to 249 beneficiaries at the mass contact programme held at Manalur in Mudukalathur Panchayat union on Wednesday.

Collector K. Nanthakumar distributed the assistance on behalf of agriculture, revenue, social welfare, backward classes and minorities, differently abled, animal husbandry and horticulture departments, an official release said.

Speaking at the function, the Collector said the mass contact programme was to take the welfare assistance to the doorsteps of the people.

Reacting to the drinking water demand of the Manalur panchayat, the Collector sanctioned Rs 10 lakh from his discretionary fund to dig a bore well on the bank of Paralaiaru and to build a 10,000 litre capacity water tank for distribution of drinking water, the release said.

In Sivaganga, Collector V. Rajaraman distributed assistance to 84 beneficiaries at a mass contact programme held at Pudukottai village in Ilayankudi panchayat union.

Of the 159 petitions received, the Collector passed orders in respect of 84 petitions.
