A week-long exhibition of khadi and village products began at Makkal Mandram in Thillai Nagar here on Saturday in connection with the ensuing Pongal celebrations.

Collector Mahesan Kasirajan who inaugurated the exhibition organised by the ‘Khadi Craft' of the Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board, said the exhibition was being conducted to keep the people aware of various khadi products.

He said khadi items including, khadi silk sarees, khadi polyester and khadi cloth, khadi readymade garments, bedsheets, towels and pure village products like herbal soaps, honey, incense sticks, perfumes, palm products including palm sugar, padaneer, palm candy made by various Sarvodaya sangams in the State.

S.Sampathkumar, Regional Deputy Director of KVIB, said the exhibition would conclude on January 14 and pointed out that 20 to 30 per cent special discount would be given for the khadi cloth, readymade garments, khadi silk saris, pillows and pillow covers.

Besides, 40 to 70 per cent discount will be offered for selective items, he said.

S.Jayakumar, Assistant Director of KVIB, said people were showing keen interest in purchasing khadi products and also various items made by village industries.
