School children and residents of Samathuvapuram in Chettipalayam thronged the Collectorate on Monday demanding that the children's playground in their area be restored.
They said that the students of a primary school and a higher secondary school in the area were using the playground in Samathuvapuram for many years.
But at present, lorries were going via the ground to the nearby quarries.
This had created a narrow path in the middle of the ground.
The lorries instead of taking the road through Indira Nagar were using the ground.
They alleged that the barbed wire fences were removed to create the path, and play materials such as see-saw were damaged by miscreants.
The residents said that over 100 houses were in the area.
Due to the frequent movement of lorries, children could not use the ground and the residents also suffered because of dust the lorries' movement caused.
They demanded that the damaged materials be replaced and the lorries prevented from entering the ground.
More than 20 children and women residents submitted a petition in this connection to the Collector.
