With reference to the news item ‘Lankan students? Landlords just don’t want them,’ that appeared in The Hindu on Thursday, the principal of Women’s Christian College has said the institution had asked all resident students to vacate the hostels on March 15. Several students from other states and countries returned following media reports that colleges would reopen on March 25. However, as uncertainty prevailed, many returned to their local guardians and homes.

Our Staff Reporter responds: Sri Lankan students that The Hindu spoke to were grateful that the college took responsibility for them and let them stay on. There was no intent to blame the college for its gesture or hint that it defied any instruction.
