CUDDALORE: The Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society has set up a water treatment plant at the Suba Uppalavadi, a coastal village, near here.

According to Fr.R. Ratchagar, executive director of the society, the 1,500-litre capacity plant would cater to the needs of 500 people. In the post-tsunami, the society had been undertaking many welfare schemes in coastal villages in the last two years, he said.The plant was inaugurated recently in the presence of the panchayat president, Lakshmanan.
