ERODE: Many councillors in the Erode Municipality complained about irregular water supply in their wards at the ordinary meeting of the council recently.

When the meeting began, Independent councillor Radhamani Bharathy said that for the last few days water supply had been affected in her ward. The Chairman should arrange supply of water through lorries.

Councillors Madhan (DMK), Velu (MDMK), Kovendan (DMDK) and V. Senthilkumar (AIADMK) also complained about water shortage.

In his reply, Chairman K. Kumar Murugesh said that in the recent flood in Cauvery the 200 HP motor submerged in water.

So water pumping was affected for sometime.

Though it had been shifted and installed in some other place, the supply was not regular.

One more pumping station would be constructed soon and the water supply system would also be streamlined.

The Chairman said that the municipality was having enough fund to lay roads, construct drainages and improve water supply.

But due to the hike in the prices of sand, cement and other building materials, the contractors could not do the work.

He said that he would represent to the Government the plight of the contractors and try to get permission to sanction more fund to complete the works.

The council adjourned more than 50 work tenders due to the demand of revised rate by the contractors.
