Krishnagiri: Water was released from the main irrigation canal of the Barur tank in Pochampalli taluk on Thursday for the first crop.

According to the Collector, Santhosh Babu, water will be released from the tank from July 3 to November 28 for a period of 150 days benefiting 4729.25 acres of land.

In addition, water would also be released from the East main canal and West main canal of the tank for the first 17 days and for the remaining days water would be released once in three days depending upon the water level in the tank.

A total of 3212.87 acres of land in the villages of Barur, Kilkuppam, Pendarahalli, Kottapatti, Jingalkadirampatti and Dadampatti will be benefited through the release from the East main canal.

Similarly, a total of 1516.38 acres of land in the villages of Barur, Kilkuppam, Arasampatti and Pendarahalli would be benefited through the release from the West main canal, Mr. Babu added. MP E.G. Sugavanam, Krishnagiri MLA T. Senguttuvan and Revenue Divisional Officer Sambasivam were among those present.
