Even dyeing units outside Erode bring the material to clean them
ERODE: Though banned, washing of dyed cloth is on the rise on Cauvery River, polluting it further.
Many of the textile dyeing units in Erode are taking loads of cloth in vans to the river bank from where it is ferried to the middle of the river for washing them. Palani of Rajajipuram who has been regularly taking bath in the river for the last 40 years said on Wednesday that washing of dyed cloth has been going on in the river for the last 15 years.
The contaminated water is affecting the health of the people. He said that when the river is flooded some persons used to dump industrial wastes and solid sediments into it.
There are also reports that hundreds of textile dyers are discharging untreated effluents into the drains in Pallipalayam, which reaches the river.
