CHENNAI: Noted trade union leader V.M.R. Sabapathy died here on Wednesday after a brief illness.
He was 78.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Mr. Sabapathy served as president of the transport union and as vice-president of the Labour Progressive Federation, the DMK affiliated union.
He had also worked as secretary to DMK president M. Karunanidhi during the emergency period. Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan and Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran were among those who paid tributes to the departed leader.
