Team Kshatriya, a group of 23 students from VIT University, Vellore, bagged four awards in the BAJA SAE INDIA 2013 held at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh recently.
BAJA SAE is an annual inter-collegiate event organised by the U.S.-based SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to enable SAE student members to participate in a challenging project-cum-competition involving the design, engineering, planning, manufacturing, marketing and racing of an All-Terrain Vehicle.
Young undergraduate engineering students designed, developed and built a single-seater off-the-road car from scratch. Competing against 120 teams, the VIT team won the first prize in the category of Hill Climb, and became runner-up in Engineering Design category which is also its third successive prize in as many years.
The team also won the Engineering Aesthetics Award, and the Runners-Up award in Marketing and Business Plan. It was placed at the fourth place in the Endurance event winning a total prize money of Rs.2.4 lakh.
Sharing the experience, Anish Gupta, captain of Team Kshatriya said, “If one wants to achieve great things, one must learn from his / her mistakes. We were full of enthusiasm from the beginning and the idea was to commit ourselves to the cause. We worked very hard and it was a team effort. We aimed for the top spot, which drove us towards. We are thankful to VIT for all the support and encouragement without which this would not have been possible”.
