Udhagamandalam: The three-day dog show of the South India Kennel Club (SIKC) which got underway at the Government Arts College ground here on Friday with Obedience Trials of a high order entered an interesting phase on Saturday with a number of dogs belonging to various breeds participating in an all breeds show.

About 420 dogs were vying for honours, the Secretary, SIKC, R.Nagina told The Hindu.

It would continue on Sunday when the 8 best entries would be chosen.

In the Obedience Trials, about 40 dogs participated in categories like pre-beginners, beginners, novice, under graduate, graduate, open, companion and private.

All breeds show

In the all breeds show, the entries belonged to the toy group, hound group, gun dogs, terriers, utility dogs, working group dogs and those belonging to the pastoral group.

Since the German Shepherd Dog is the most popular breed in the Nilgiris a large number of them have been entered. Exhibitors are from several parts of India including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Coimbatore.

Since the dog show of the SIKC has always been one of the most important season related activities in this vacation destination, there has been a non-stop flow of tourists to the venue. Among the visitors on Saturday was the Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik.
