Vinayaka Chathurti was celebrated in a different sort of way by Thiruvarut Peravai to ensure communal harmony and brotherhood among people from all walks of life at a function held at Karpaka Vinayagar Temple at Parvathipuram in Nagercoil on Sunday.
The Peravai had been celebrating the festival in this fashion for the past three years. It was initiative of the then Collector Rajendra Ratnoo. Kanyakumari being a communally sensitive district, he took special efforts to organise the festival in which leaders from Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities eagerly participated. And the tradition still continues.
Following the successful conduct of Vinayaka Chathurti in this manner, the Peravai has decided to organise all festivals this way so that hatred among people from different communities could be eliminated and it would pave way for brotherhood, love, affection and communal harmony in the society, particularly among the younger generation.
In future, all religious festivals would be celebrated as a family function, said Peravai co-ordinator Rev. Fr. A. Maria Vincent.
The members offered puja materials to the temple. ‘Poornakuma mariathai’ was offered by the temple committee management to the office-bearers of the Thiruvarut Peravai.
Secretary Yusuf, joint-secretary R.Arul Kannan, Kalkulam taluk president and member of Peravai R.J.K. Thilak, Mohammed Kasim, Mathesan, Rajasekar and others participated.
