Hundreds of people from Valayampatti village near Ambathurai thronged the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Friday condemning the “rude” attitude of Ambathurai Sub-Inspector of Police and demanding that adequate security be provided to a temple festival scheduled to be held at their village on April 7.

In a petition submitted to the SP, village head Palanisamy Amabalam alleged that SI Murugan tore the petition given by the villagers seeking security to the temple festival.

“Some antisocial elements at the village planned to create law and order problem during Sri Muthalamman Temple festival. Adequate police force should be deployed to maintain law and order at the village. But the SI not only neglected our concerns but also tore the petitions in front of villagers,” they said.

The villagers appealed to SP T. Jayachandran to personally visit the village and monitor the security arrangements during the festival and prevent antisocial activities.
