TIRUNELVELI: A group of villagers from Adaiyakarunkulam near Ambasamudram in the district submitted petition in the Office of the District Collector on Tuesday seeking to safeguard the traditional way of worship at the village temple. The petitioners said that they were following a traditional way of worship at Sri Narayana Swamy Temple in their village and were hoisting white and saffron flags atop two tamarind trees on the premises of the temple during festivals.

Contrary to this practice, the present temple management committee was making attempts to install a flag-mast for hoisting these flags, “which is against the traditional way of worship being offered here.”

“As we anticipate clashes between the villagers over this issue, the district administration should prevent the installation of the flag-mast on the temple premises and ensure the continuation of traditional practices,” the villagers said.
