Focus on sanitation, abolition of child labour

Dharmapuri: All the 251 village panchayats in the district will hold gram sabha meetings on August 15.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the Collector, M. Chandrasekaran, said that observers had been deputed to all the panchayats to monitor and aid in the smooth functioning of the meetings.

Besides laying the budget for approval, the agenda to be taken up in the meetings is as follows: list out the development programmes approved by the panchayats, approval of list of beneficiaries from Below Poverty Line families, use of iodine, handling of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes, converting the collected garbage into earthworm manure, maintenance of women sanitary complexes, deepening of wells and construction of water harvesting structures, construction of individual sanitary complexes and enrolment of drop outs in schools run by Sarva Shiksha Abiyan.

The meetings would also discuss abolition of child labour, selection of beneficiaries under the Sampoorna Grama Employment Scheme, Indira Awaas Yojana, ensuring 100 per cent enrolment and retention of children in schools, clearing of plastic waste from water bodies, disaster management, protection of child rights and selection of beneficiaries under the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation scheme. The Collector has appealed to the public and self-help group members to take part in the gram sabha meetings and put forth their suggestions on the development works that needs to be undertaken.
