A large number of people of E. Veppankulam near Chithirangudi on Sunday thronged the Collector's camp office here demanding his intervention to enable them exercise their voting rights in their panchayat itself.

They told the Collector, V. Arun Roy, that officials had denied permission to the voters of E. Veppankulam to vote for the Chithirangudi panchayat election stating that several of their names had been found in the voters' lists of Chithirangudi and Peraiyur panchayats.

Though some persons had registered their names in both the panchayats without understanding the system, a few persons with vested interests had been trying to prevent them from voting, they said.

They demanded him to take necessary steps to ensure them vote in Chithirangudi panchayat itself, which was their native.

The Collector told them that there was no problem for them to vote in the election to the Chithriangudi or Peraiyur panchayat.

However, they should choose either Chithirangudi or Peraiyur.
