Neela Chandrakumar, Vellore, urban district secretary of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) was arrested by the Katpadi police on Wednesday on a charge of attempting to murder a person.

According to the police, Kumanan (49), a farmer of S. Kodiyur village near Jolarpet had in his complaint to I. Eswaran, Superintendent of Police, Vellore district on Wednesday stated that Neela Chandrakumar had assured him that he would obtain a job for his son in the Railways provided he gave him Rs. six lakh. Believing his words, Kumanan paid the amount to him about a year ago. But since Chandrakumar did not fulfil his promise, Kumanan asked him to return the amount. Despite repeated requesters, he had been dodging him and failed to return the money till date. When he met Chandrakumar at the Chittoor Bus Stand on Wednesday and demanded the money, they engaged in a wordy quarrel, after which the VCK functionary allegedly threatened him at knife point that he would kill him if he asked for the money.

On receiving the complaint, the SP forwarded the same to the District Crime Branch, which after enquiry, handed over the case to the Katpadi police. The latter arrested Neela Chandrakumar.
