COIMBATORE: For students who are from rural areas and are economically weak, their background should not be an obstacle to achieve success, said G. Thiruvasagam, Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University.

If they concentrated on communicative English, they could do well in academics and get respectable jobs, he added.

Education to youngsters

Speaking at the college day celebrations at Vidyasagar College of Arts and Science, Udumalpet, Prof. Thiruvasagam advised the teachers to rededicate themselves to the cause of providing quality education to youngsters.

He said that a student should have three things in hand when he or she left the institution - a degree certificate, diploma that could make them employable and an offer letter from a good company.

Bharathiar University had made it mandatory for students of higher education to qualify with advanced diplomas, he said.

Book released

A book titled, "Higher Education Challenges and Remedies" was released by the Secretary of the college, V. Vidyasagar, and the first copy was received by the Vice Chancellor.

C.R. Swaminathan, Trust Member of Vidyasagar College of Arts and Science, and Chief Executive of PSG Institutions presided. Rank-holders received prizes from the VC.
