THANJAVUR: Periyar Maniammai University at Vallam, near here, will offer a postgraduate diploma course in valuation, said its Vice-Chancellor N. Ramachandran here on Wednesday.

Participating in a meeting of the Tiruchi branch of Institution of Valuers, Dr. Ramachandran appealed to the valuers to utilise the opportunity and affix a PG diploma in valuation to their qualification.

Earlier, Chairman of the Institution of Valuers P.K. Thiagarajan appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to explore the possibility of teaching valuation as an elective subject in the engineering degree curriculum.

Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, P. Kumar said the role of valuers was not confined to only banking but also extended to the insurance sector. The valuers should systematically update their knowledge in their subject. They should also have knowledge of marketing. Their services were required by banks in the pre-sanction and the post-sanction stage of loans.

The former national vice-president, Institution of Valuers, B. Kanagasababathi, said valuation was the new avenue for engineers. Valuers should make a correct valuation of the property. Their valuation should withstand legal scrutiny.
