Students of the branch can sit for Indian Information Service examinations

MADURAI: The Madurai Kamarj University is introducing a Masters course in Communication and Journalism through its Department of Journalism and Science Communication.

The course content includes video production, electronic editing, graphics, reporting, photography and research methodology.

Apart from these core subjects, the students can also take up electives from other departments such as Futures Studies, Sociology, Political Science, English and Tamil Studies under Choice Based Credit System.

The course is designed to impart both practical and theoretical knowledge in the various aspects of journalism and mass communication, according to a University press release issued here.

Training in desktop publishing, press photography, videography, script writing for radio and television will also be imparted. Further, students will have to produce a lab journal, `Madurai Voice,' as part of the curriculum.

Internship a must

Students will have to undergo internship in newspaper concerns, television stations, advertising agencies and public relation concerns for completion of the degree course.

Besides opening the door for a variety of posts in the media, the students can also sit for Indian Information Service examinations and become officials in Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
