The University Grants Commission has released a grant of Rs.10.06 lakh to Periyar University under the Shodhganga project.

Vice-Chancellor of the university K. Muthuchelian said that as per the recommendation made by the Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), Ahmedabad, an autonomous Inter-University Centre of UGC, funds were sanctioned by the UGC.

He said that doctoral theses submitted by candidates across the country of various Central, State and Deemed universities can be accessed worldwide by researchers in the websitewww.shodhganga.inflibnet., a portal being hosted by INFLIBNET.

The funds would be utilised for the digitalisation of 256 theses at Rs. 2.56 lakh and setting up of Electronic Theses and Dissertations lab in the university at Rs. 7.50 lakh. Research scholars can upload it in the portal at the university, he added.

Mr. Muthuchelian said that theses and dissertations were known to be the rich and unique source of information, but remained untapped and underutilised leading to unnecessary duplication and repetition thus leading to wastage of huge resources, both human and financial.

Quality research

“The university has joined the national level repository of E-Theses, Shodhganga that also prevents plagiarism among candidates writing their Ph.D and M. Phil theses which will lead to quality research,” he added.
