Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan has given a directive that all the Village Administrative Officers in Villupuram district to remain at their places of postings on Sunday to oversee the polio drop administration programme.

He was speaking at a function organised at the Mandaveli grounds in Kallakurichi block near here for flagging off a polio awareness rally on Saturday.

The Minister said that every year polio drops were being given to children above five years of age in two phases, i.e., on January 20 and on February 24.

Mr. Mohan noted that Villupuram district had become polio free since 2000, Tamil Nadu since 2004 and India since 2011.

Over 3.32 lakh children in Villupuram district would get the polio dose on Sunday, he added.


In the rally the employees of the Health Department, members of the service organisations and non-governmental organisations, and, students participated.

The participants carried placards stressing the importance of taking concerted measures to make Tamil Nadu and the country polio free.
