The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police on Wednesday arrested a Village Administrative Officer on charges of taking bribe.

According to sources in the agency, S.Veerasamy (37) approached the VAO, A.R.Govindasamy (52) of Puliangutta village in Tiruvallur district, for community certificate in favour of his son. The VAO allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.5,000.

The victim lodged a complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, K.Ponnuchamy, who registered a case and formed a special team to investigate.

The team laid a trap and arrested Govindasamy soon after he took the bribe from the complainant.
