Tamirabharani, Karumaeniyar, Nambiyar linking work in full swing
TIRUNELVELI: The flyover under construction at Vannarpet here at a cost of Rs.15 crore will be ready by July, Collector M. Jayaraman has informed.
Addressing the District Planning Committee meeting held at the Collectorate on Thursday, Mr. Jayaraman said the district, which had received Rs.500 crore for executing various development schemes, had so far completed more than 80 per cent of these identified programmes. The flyover at Vannarpet would be completed before June-end and thrown open for traffic by July.
A service road for about 1.60 km would be laid around the rail over bridge under construction at Tenkasi on an outlay of Rs.24.50 crore.
“Above all, work on linking of Tamirabharani, Karumaeniyar and Nambiyar to take the surplus water of the perennial river to the dry regions of Nanguneri, Radhapuram and Sattankulam areas at a cost of Rs.369 crore is going on in full swing. The scheme will be completed by 2012,” Mr. Jayaraman informed.
Water release from Pechipaarai Dam
Chairman, District Panchayat and District Planning Committee M. Graham Bell said that the release of water from Pechipaarai dam to 52 irrigation tanks in Radhapuram taluk should be ensured immediately so that the crops standing on several hundreds of acres could be saved.
