Devotees thronged the Andal Temple here in large numbers on the occasion of opening of ‘paramapada vaasal’ in connection with Vaikunda Ekadasi festival on Monday.
The ‘paramapada vaasal’ was opened at 7.05 a.m. when the urchava moorthis of Periya Perumal followed by the presiding deities Andal and Rengamannar, passed through it. Periyalwar performed ‘ethir sevai’ following which the deities passed through the important thoroughfare before reaching the raapathu mandapam.
Special pujas and deeparadhana were performed to the deities. Among those who were present were Principal District Judge R. Krishnamoorthy, Superintendent of Police Maheswaran, Municipal Chairperson M. Senthilkumari, Andal Temple Fitman K. Ravichandran, and temple Executive Officer S. Subramaniam.
Vaikunta Ekadasi was celebrated with religious fervour in all Vaishnavite temples in Dindigul and Theni districts. Special pujas were performed to the presiding deity at Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Thadikombu near here. Lord Soundararaja Perumal entered the ‘sorga vaasal’ (paramapada vaasal) at 6.05 a.m. Devotees also passed through it. The lord was placed at the Vasantha Mandapam for darshan of devotees. A team of Battacharyars rendered hymns of Thiruppavai and Thirupallandu.
Hundreds of devotees received blessings of the Lord at Srinivasa Perumal Temple near Rock Fort in Dindigul.
Vaikunda Ekadasi was also celebrated at Perumal temples in Palani, Balasamudram, Vadamadurai, Nagal Nagar, Renganathapuram and Reddiyarchatram.
Devotees queued up at Kambaraya Perumal Temple in Cumbum and Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Theni.
