: Officials from the Department of Agriculture are all set to launch ‘Uzhavar Peruvizha’ across the district on April 14.
Farmers from all revenue villages will benefit from the festival that will end on May 20.
Farmers would be sensitised to integrated farming, pest management practice and better management practices to get higher yield. Farmers from 462 villages in 12 blocks would be covered during this festival, Joint Director of Agriculture, Tuticorin, D. Ranjithsingh Dhanraj, told The Hindu here on Saturday.
Officials from the departments of agriculture, horticulture, agriculture marketing, seed certification, agriculture engineering, sericulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, Aavin and officials from Lead Bank would explain schemes launched in the interest of farmers and share technological inputs.
The farmers would be advised to test soil conditions before sowing seeds so as to avoid loss.
Soil health cards would also be given based on the results of soil tests.
Farm inputs would be given to 110 farmers in every block besides offering sumptuous meal throughout the schedule.
Besides, panchayat presidents of villages would be provided with compact discs with contents of successful crop cultivation methods, plant protection measures and the latest technologies of cultivation to generate awareness among farmers.
Mr. Dhanraj said that campaign vehicle – ‘Agriculture Ratham’ had been arranged to reach villages in all blocks for 30 days.
Information on welfare schemes for farmers would be displayed on the vehicle.
During the schedule, leading farmers, who succeeded in competitions with a high yield of agriculture produce, would share their experiences with other farmers to boost their morale.
Hence, the official appealed to farmers to avail themselves of maximum benefits from the festival.
