RAMANATHAPURAM: Collector T.N. Hariharan has asked the people to utilise the services of banks.
Speaking at a function held in Periapattinam near here after inaugurating the new branch of Indian Bank, he said it was good to see that the percentage of people approaching banks for basic transactions had improved tremendously over the years.
However, a lot of people had no awareness of the banking services and the need for having bank accounts.
They should come forward to open new accounts that ultimately make them feel secure.
Mr. Hariharan said the awareness of the basic banking functions was very poor in rural areas.
Central government had initiated several measures to make the people open new bank accounts.
The bank officers and employees should take sincere efforts to create an awareness among rural masses. This would not only benefit the customers but also make the banks stronger.
He said Periapattinam branch was the 5th branch of the Indian Bank in Ramanathapuram district. He hoped the new branch would serve the people better.
