Formidable alternative to Congress and BJP yet to be formed: Biswas
: Rocked by one scam after another, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has lost the power of governance, All India Forward Bloc, general secretary Debabrata Biswas said on Saturday.
The UPA government has got itself completely alienated from the people, Mr.Biswas claimed while addressing the media here. Ruling out the possibility of a snap poll, Mr.Biswas said that both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party were not ready for the election at this juncture. Claiming that the BJP’s house was not in order, Mr.Biswas said a formidable alternative to the two national parties – the Congress and the BJP – was yet to be formed. The Left parties should be prepared for a long drawn fight against the Congress and the BJP, he said. The All India Forward Bloc is one of the constituents of the Left front. On the vexed Cauvery water dispute, Mr.Biswas accused the Central government of “its lack of effort” in settling the issue. The Centre, he said, should come out with bold steps to tackle the issue, he said adding that Tamil Nadu farmers should get proper share of Cauvery water. He said the farming community across the country were suffering from water crisis. The Forward Bloc party congress will be held from February 24 to 28 in Chennai and the focus would be on formulation of people’s policy. Demanding a policy for agriculture, Mr.Biswas said land, water and forest resources should be protected. Agriculture and manufacturing sectors were destroyed due to the Centre’s policies, he claimed.
