ERODE: The Erode District Education Protection Committee has asked the State Government to drop the move to convert the government and aided colleges into unitary universities.

A resolution passed in this regard at a meeting of the committee held here recently said that the move would affect the interests of the students and teachers working in the government and aided colleges.

The committee also urged the State Government to put an end to the collection of donation through the parent-teacher associations in the schools.

Steps should be taken to the fill vacant posts in schools and colleges immediately, the committee said.

In another resolution, the committee asked the State Government to allot more funds for education.

It said the Union Government should withdraw the Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill, which allows the entry of foreign universities in the country.
