“Drinking water needs of town’s residents fulfilled”
Earlier they used to get water only once in 10 days during summer
Municipality has been supplying water from Thenpennaiyar at Thalipatti in Kaveripattinam
TIRUPATTUR: The Tirupattur Municipality has augmented supply of drinking water to residents without disruption this summer.
Chockammal Tulasinathan, chairperson of the municipality, told The Hindu that the local body had been supplying water from Thenpennaiyar at Thalipatti in Kaveripattinam of Krishnagiri district. It had invested a lot of money for getting drinking water from Thenpennaiyar. Water was pumped into four overhead tanks situated at the Government Garden, Gowthampettai, Vaniyambadi Main Road and Balamal Colony.
Storage capacity of the tank at the Government Garden was 11.35 lakh litres. The capacity of the remaining three were as follows - Gowthampettai tank, 10 lakh litres; Vaniyambadi Main Road tank, 2.5 lakh litres; Balamal Colony tank, one lakh litre.
Ms. Tulasinathan said that a total of 28 lakh litres of water was extracted from Thenpennaiyar from five infiltration wells to be supplied to Tirupattur. Water was brought through pipelines laid over a distance of 42 km. The water was pumped into the overhead tanks for supply. Similarly, water was also extracted from the Palar to be supplied to the Tirupattur town. A total of 38 lakh litres of water was extracted from the Palar and pumped to the overhead tanks, Ms. Tulasinathan said.
Drinking water requirements of Tirupattur had been fulfilled at present, she said.
Residents said that they were happy over the initiative taken by the municipality. Earlier they used to get water only once in 10 days during summer, the residents said.
