A group of under-trials of Central Prison in Kalapet created flutter at the court complex here by refusing to alight from the police van. Sources said as soon as they were brought to the court complex for producing before a magistrate, the accompanied policemen, asked them to get down from the van. However, they refused to listen to them, protesting against the ‘unfair treatment’ meted out to them by warders at the prison. There were 9 under-trails in the van. They complained that they were being harassed by the warders without any valid reason. They also told the police that one of the inmates was wrongly implicated in a complaint lodged by a warder.

Following this, the policemen and a few officials pointed out to them that it was not correct on their part to stage a protest in the complex and subsequently the prisoners gave up the protest after about an hour.

It was said that the protest of prisoners was a fall out of protest staged by jail warders on Saturday. They highlighted that they were being threatened by a group of prisoners for implementing strict rules and regulations among the inmates lodged in the Central Prison.
