Nominated member of National Assessment and Accreditation Council
MADURAI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has appointed T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, Principal and secretary, The American College, as member of an expert committee to plan for the establishment of centrally assisted colleges to be set up in 370 low gross enrolment districts across the country.
The other members of the committee are S.P. Thyagarajan, former Vice-Chancellor (convenor), Sachidanand Sinha of Centre for Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Anil Wilson, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University, and K.P.S. Unny, former Registrar, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Mr. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar has also been nominated as a member of the Governing Council of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, for a period of three years.
Accepting the new responsibilities, he said that it would be an opportunity for him to design policies that would widen access for the poor and marginalised sections of students across the country and also for setting new standards in higher education. He said that it was a recognition accorded to the professional standing of the 127 year-old institution.
