Two tonnes of rice meant for Public Distribution System was seized from Thumberi Koot Road and Velathikamani Benda in Vaniyambadi on Friday night.

According of revenue officials, Tashildar of Vaniyambadi S. Thangavelu had received information over phone of ration rice being hidden in bags at the two places.

Based on his order, a team led by Taluk Supply Officer, Vaniyambadi Vijayan and Revenue Inspector S. Kannan rushed to the spots. They found 30 bags of smuggled ration rice hidden near a bush on Thumberi Koot Road and 12 bags at a desolate spot at the foothill at Velathikamani Benda.

The officials seized the 42 bags of rice and have sent it to the godown of Ambur sugar mill, they said.
