A teacher and two students from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the waters of the Bay of Bengal off Mamallapuram on Saturday evening.

Police said a group of 41 students and seven teachers from a private school in Mahabubnagar in Andhra Pradesh, was on an education tour. They came to Mamallapuram and after visiting the monuments, reached the shore around 4.30 p.m. Two class X students, Akil (15) and Kishore (15), and Suresh (32), a teacher, ventured into the sea. They were dragged in further by a strong wave. Attempts by the other teachers and onlookers to rescue them proved futile.
