The Forest Department on Sunday arrested two persons for poaching a wild boar. M. Senthil Kumar, District Forest Officer, Coimbatore, levied a total fine of Rs. 40,000 on the duo.

According to C. Dinesh Kumar, Forest Range Officer, L. Rayappan (53), and A. Arul Kumar (22) of Karamadai were apprehended near Thondamuthur around 5 a.m. on Sunday with a wild boar in their possession.

They had poached the animal from the forest areas along the Marudhamalai hills with an explosive laced with meat. Wild boar was a protected animal, the poaching of which was an offence under Section 9 of the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. Mr. Dinesh Kumar said that if farmers faced trouble from wild boars, they could inform the Forest Department and seek help rather than attempting to hunt them
