The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday directed Madurai Kamaraj University to file a detailed counter affidavit in reply to two writ petitions seeking to restrain the varsity from filling up regular vacancies for the post of clerk without filling up backlog vacancies meant for Most Backward Classes.

A Division Bench of Justices K. N. Basha and P. Devadass ordered that the counter affidavit must be filed by February 18. Earlier, G. Prabhu Rajadurai, counsel for one of the petitioners contended that the university had a sanctioned strength of 458 clerks. But there was no clarity over how many of those posts were reserved for various categories.
