MADURAI: In two different accidents, two persons were killed on the spot here on Wednesday.
Police said that when S. Mayakrishnan (22), a two-wheeler mechanic residing at Arumugam Nagar near Villapuram Corporation Colony was proceeding in the locality around noon, a speeding state-owned bus plying between Avaniapuram and Periyar bus stand hit against him. In the process, Mayakrishnan was caught before the rear tyre and crushed to death.
Agitated public pelted stones and damaged the windscreen. Avaniapuram police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
In the evening, a 29-year-old youth was killed on the spot near the K.K. Nagar Main Road.
Police said that the victim who was riding his two-wheeler was reportedly trapped under the lorry, which was carrying slaughter cattle.
The lorry was proceeding from K.K. Nagar Arch towards Aavin Junction, while the two-wheeler rider was heading towards the K.K. Nagar Main road from the Lake Road.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was working for a private telephone company having its office in K.K. Nagar and lived in Ponmeni Nagar, S.S. Colony.
A senior police officer who inspected the spot said that the victim was wearing a helmet and was probably talking over his mobile phone through hands free set at the time of the accident.
Tallakulam Traffic (investigation) police have registered a case.
