Two persons were killed when a potato-laden lorry fell on them near Muthunaickenpatti on Steel Plant Road on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as P. Elango (39) of Periyaputhur and K. Guna (15) of Sivadapuram. They were returning home after collecting money for pilgrimage from a person. They stopped the motor bike they were riding, near the road and were standing near it.

The lorry driver while negotiating a curve lost control of the vehicle and fell on its side crushing them. Villagers’ attempt to rescue them went in vain.

The police said that the lorry driver, in order to avoid paying fee at tollgate on Bangalore – Salem National Highway took the road.
