Two held for hunting birds

Two persons belonging to Narikorava community in Pungampalayam Narikorava colony near Karamadai were arrested for poaching birds in Karamadai reserve forest area on Sunday.

Mohanraj of Tamil Nadu Green Movement and his team were returning to the city after taking part in a bird race when they found two persons moving into the forest with a fire arm. They informed the Forest Department officials and the police. A team of forest officials led by Range Officer N. Desappan found them to be in possession of four dead birds. The two were indentified as Arun (27) and Chinnadurai (28). The birds were two spot billed ducks (Anas poecilorhyncha), one white breasted waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) and one cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis).

The forest officials registered a case against the two and seized their moped and the dead birds. They informed the police with regard to the possession of an unlicensed country made fire-arm by the duo.
