CHENNAI: A man and a woman were arrested on charges of cheating and extortion. A city court remanded them to judicial custody. According to Vasudevan Maheswaran (50), a middle-aged woman stopped his motorcycle near the Gemini flyover two days ago and asked for lift. As they were riding, a man, claiming himself as a police officer, intercepted Vasudevan's vehicle. The man threatened to register a case against Vasudevan and the woman on charges of prostitution. He also demanded money. Vasudevan parted with Rs. 2, 000 in cash, a gold ring and his credit card.

However, Vasudevan approached the Pondy Bazaar police where inquiries showed he had been duped.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (T. Nagar) S. Baskaran said on Friday a special team arrested the man and the woman. Radhika (27) and Premkumar (28) of Perambur reportedly admitted to duping motorists.
