Madurai Corporation is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) on constructing two flyovers to decongest vehicular traffic in the busy road junctions at Goripalayam and Periyar bus stand, Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa said.

Mr. Chellappa said that the DPR at a cost of Rs. 70 crore was being prepared by the Corporation officials. Another effort to prevent vehicular congestion in the heart of the city was setting up of a multi-level vehicle parking near Jhansi Rani Park and Periyar bus stand at a cost of Rs. 80 crore.
Construction of two truck terminals at a cost of Rs. 85 crore at Kochadai and Avaniyapuram and an omni-bus stand near Mattuthavani Integrated Bus stand at a cost of Rs. 70 crore were other efforts to ease vehicular congestion in the city, he said.
Mr. Chellappa also said shortage of funds that has stopped the execution of several works under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission could start soon as efforts were being taken to get funds as grants and through loans.
Mayor gave away certificates to officers for meritorious service, best school and students who participated in the cultural programmes held on the occasion.
