Two fishermen who were detained by the Tiruvottiyur police in connection with a case of two persons missing reported in 2006 were arrested on charges of murder and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday, police sources said.

M. Dison alias Raghu and G. Sundaram alias Sundararaj of Tiruvottiyur were apprehended by a special team investigating the case in which two persons Chellathurai and Velu were reported missing under mysterious circumstances in September 2006.

After investigation made no significant progress over the years, the family of the missing persons lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police J.K. Tripathy on August 10 saying that former DMK Minister K.P.P. Samy and his family members were involved in the case.

Following a tip-off, police arrested Dison and Sundaram. “The accused confessed that Chellathurai was kidnapped and murdered in 2006. The body was abandoned somewhere near Puducherry. We are in touch with the Puducherry police in this connection,” a senior police official said.

Hours after the arrest, K.P.P. Shankar and K.P.P. Chokkalingam, brothers of the former Minister, surrendered in a court in Kancheepuram district. They were lodged in the Puzhal central prison on Tuesday evening, the sources added.
