Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu has ordered the detention of two persons in the last few days as part of the efforts towards crime prevention.

A release from the city police said that F. Jose alias Joshua alias Louis (23) of Puliakulam was detained under Goondas Act.

The said accused was involved in seven theft cases in Race Course Police limits, two cases of group clash in Ramanathapuram police limits besides involvement in one theft and burglary case in Peelamedu police limits.

In the last three months alone, 17 habitual offenders who had taken to crime as their career had been detained under Goondas Act.

Dr. Sylendra Babu said that in Coimbatore City, people who had come to the adverse notice of the police had been classified into A, B, C and D besides A + and A+4 categories and have been brought under constant monitoring and shadow watching, so as to apprehend them in the event of they taking to crime as their career once again.

R. Thennarasu (31) of Selvapuram, Coimbatore who was involved in six cases of clash in Selvapuram, R.S. Puram and Race Course Police limits has been detained under Goondas Act.

As against the nine detentions in the previous year, Dr.Sylendra Babu said that during the current year 17 persons had been detained so far.

Man arrested

Ansar Mohideen alias Mohideen was arrested on charges of cheating people by taking money promising employment in Gulf countries. The said accused had advertised in newspapers luring people on the look out for overseas employment. He was arrested on May 21.
