Two committees have been constituted to check child labour menace in Pudukottai and Tiruchi districts, with a view to ensuring that no business employed children below the age of 14 years. Talking on the sidelines of the inaugural of a week-long awareness campaign to check child labour here on Monday, S.Sundararaj, Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Enforcement), Tiruchi, said that the members of the committees constitute deputy inspectors of labour, assistant inspectors of labour, a doctor, a representative from the Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Society (CHEERS), and an inspector of labour.

Surprise inspection

The teams would conduct surprise inspection at business establishments such as hotels, two-wheeler and four-wheeler service units, and commercial establishments. The State government has taken special efforts for creating awareness about child labour. A week-long cultural programme would be organised to sensitise masses to the evils of child labour. Stickers and eye-catching posters would be displayed at hotels and other commercial units.

Mahesan Kasirajan, Collector, inaugurated the awareness campaign by pasting posters at a restaurant in the city.
