The police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a transgender, on charges of robbery and are on the look out for two more.

According to the police, J. Vijayalakshmi (45), a housewife from Namakkal, approached K. Kaliammal alias Ramya (29), a transgender who was also from the same town, for a loan of Rs. 50 lakh. Vijayalakshmi came into contact with R. Gibson (36), a resident of Coimbatore, through Ramya.

The duo told Vijayalakshmi that she must pay a sum of Rs. 3 lakh upfront in order to secure the loan.

Vijayalakshmi agreed to these terms and came to Coimbatore on May 2 with the money. However, she grew suspicious while meeting them at Avinashi Road near Peelamedu and refused to part with the money. But the two snatched the bag from Vijayalakshmi and fled the place

A case was registered at Peelamedu Police station.

Based on the information she provided, the Peelamedu Police on Thursday arrested Ramya and Gibson. The police also suspect the involvement of two more persons who are absconding.

The Coimbatore District Police on Wednesday arrested a 39-year-old man on the charges of stealing laptops from college students. According to police sources, E. Jose Samuel, a resident of Podanur, was suspected to have stolen several laptops over the past few months. Four engineering college students had lodged a complaint that their laptops were stolen.
