The case of cheating against former DMK Minister K.K.S.S.Ramachandran took a new turn here on Friday.

Persons close to J.M. Bose of Koomapatti alleged that he had been admitted in Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai with burn injuries. They said that the former minister’s men had kidnapped Mr. Bose to Bangalore, tortured him, tonsured his head and caused burn injuries all over his body in an attempt to make him withdraw the complaint.

Following a habeas corpus petition filed in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, he was let off, they added.

However, Superintendent of Police S. Maheswaran told The Hindu that the Virudhunagar district police did not receive any such complaint. The case had been pending in the court and the same was said in the court also. But nobody approached the police, he added.

The case relates to payment of Rs. 32 lakh to Mr. Ramachandran for the party ticket to contest election from Srivilliputtur Assembly constituency. Mr. Bose asked him to return the money since he did not get the seat but it was not returned.

A case has been registered with Aruppukottai Town Police under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code against Mr. K.K.S.S. Ramachandran and K.K.S.S.R. Subbaraj.
