Tuticorin: Tuticorin district has recorded a pass percentage of 93.84 in the higher secondary examinations, a marginal increase compared to last year's 92.87 per cent.
Of the 16,056 students who appeared for the public examinations in the district this year, 15,067 passed out. R. Pandian of Sakthi Vinayakar Hindu Vidyalaya, CBSE Secondary School, Tuticorin, who stood first in the State-level, is also the topper of the district with a score of 1187 / 1200. He secured full marks in four subjects — Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. M. Joe Stephe (1182) and J. Josephine Minu (1181) of Holy Cross Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, secured the second and third ranks in the district. Joe Stephe scored full marks in Mathematics and Physics while Josephine Minu achieved full marks in Mathematics and Chemistry.
S. Sanjana of the same school came third in the district with French as her second language. She scored full marks in Accountancy and Commerce. T. Karpaga Madhumathi of St. Aloysius Girls Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, stood second in Zoology (199) in the State.
The number of students who scored full marks in various subjects in the district: Mathematics 37; Accountancy 18; Chemistry 15; Commerce 12; Computer Science 6; Physics 5; Biology 3; and Economics 1. As many as 146 schools, including 39 government schools, 81 government-aided schools and 12 matriculation schools are functioning in the district. Twenty-nine schools — one government school, 16 aided schools and 12 matriculation schools — produced centum results.
Collector G. Prakash honoured the toppers on Friday with shields. P. Vishnu Prasad, Chief Educational Officer, C. Robertson, District Educational Officer (in-charge), Tuticorin, Konzago Maskarin, DEO (in-charge), Kovilpatti, correspondents and Principals of the schools concerned and parents of the top rankers were present.
